At Prairie Mile Tileworks we make hand-carved and tube-lined decorative art tiles. We work directly with designers, architects, contractors and clients to create one-of-a-kind custom tiles and ceramic murals. We also have many "stock" tiles designs to choose from, and new designs are added continuously.
Our tiles are made of a high-density, vitreous stoneware/porcelain white clay body that is fired to over 2,000 degrees (brick firing temperature) in state-of–the–art computerized kilns. Each tile is formed, pressed, and glazed by hand. Over 60 different glaze colors can be created for an almost unlimited variety of surfaces available to the client.
What this means to you is that our decorative tiles are extremely strong, durable, and water-resistant, as well as being finely crafted and uniquely beautiful.
I have over 20 years experience in this field. I hold a masters’ degree in Fine Arts with emphasis in ceramics, and have taught ceramics at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. My work has encompassed multiple forming methods, including 3 dimensional sculpture and bas-relief carving; and many decorating techniques, including sgraffito and intaglio, as well as classic tube-lining. I have extensive knowledge of Clay Formation, glaze calculation, and firing methods. I am also experienced in graphics and interior design.
Please let me know if there is anything that I can do for you.
